Sumo deadlifts take most of the emphasis off your back and onto your legs. You can pull more weight doing sumos than regular deadlifts. I incorporate them into my workout once in a while when my regular deadlifts are stuck. Doing rack pulls and sumo deadlifts will strengthen your regular deadlifts like crazy (well at least for me)
