The only real difference between free range and non free range is that the free range chickens eat whatever they come across. Whatever happens to be on the ground, they'll eat, be it food, seeds, dog shit, dead mice, etc. They also fight a lot and peck each others skin apart and eat that too. I can see how that would make the eggs and meat taste better too.
