Our 4 year old 52" Samsung was having some cap issues, but Samsung covered it under an extended service bulletin or whatever and fixed it for free. Phone up 1-800-SAMSUNG if you ever have any issues and see if they can help you out.
This is really so basic though... never buy the extended warranty and never buy HDMI cables in store (or any accessory really). The cables/surge bars/etc that they sell are a total rip off.
