Canon's IS and Nikon's VR both move the optical elements to stabilize the image, so at very wide angles, the IS/VR can start to encroach on the edges of the image circles of the lens being stabilized. This results in soft corners, but only at the wide end. The Canon 24-105mm f4L IS suffers from this at 24mm to about 28mm. Interestingly, the Canon 15-85mm EF-S and the Nikon 16-35mm f4 VR are very well controlled. It just might be due to the older design of the 24-105. Although I've never been a fan of that lens on a professional level, I think it's a good travel lens on a FF body.

Try writing that after you've had a go with the 85mm f1.2L - worst lens ever in terms of AF speed! Hehe... On the other hand, the Nikon 85mm f1.4G is a dream - superior in every way. Now that I have the Nikon G - EOS adapter I should test both lenses on my 5DmkII.
I've noticed that the seasoned pros prefer the Canon 85mm f1.8 over the f1.2L....it's the amateurs and newbies who regard the 85L as a somewhat mythical beast and covet it more.
