you can not add zones later unless you make the furnace run independently from another room.

Some newer houses have different zones per room which is real handy to keep costs low, make sure when you buy a programmable thermostat you buy one with 3-4 time settings like sg said you can have the lowest temp when your at work thus lowering the bill by quite a bit
