I can speak from experience when I say you should get something that is inexpensive and that you can learn on. I'm also 17 and my first car was a 2003 RSX that was around $7000. That car had leather, heated seats, sunroof, all those nice little features and everyone was impressed by it. Any car in decent shape is considered impressive for people our age. I got into numerous minor accidents simply due to recklessness and carelessness, the likes of which probably won't ever occur in the future when I mature.

I drive a 2012 Genesis Coupe now and I love it and I've learned from what I went through with the RSX. Because of what the RSX had to go through; I now drove with total and utter attention and take absolutely no risks. The Genesis was $30K and my parents bought it for me so I probably sound like a hypocrite. I understand how hard it is to refuse the generosity of parents especially at this age. I have yet to meet anyone who actually has refused such an offer from parents who are in a financial position to do so so don't feel bad about what people here are saying.

Basically the chances of you fucking up no matter how slim you may think are extremely high. People constantly compliment my driving ability yet I've screwed up many times simply due to the carelessness that comes with being 17 years old.

I'd suggest an RSX or a Civic Si or whatever Audi or BMW you can get for under $10,000. All these cares will drive well, impress people, and it won't be TOO bad if you fuck up on them.

Trust me nothing feels worse than even the most minor of collisions and I would've hated of they occurred in my new car..
