My receiver doesn't have hdmi. It's old school.
I actually bought a new receiver a couple months ago and had it hooked up through hdmi but I was losing video signal. So I just returned it and used my old one. But that's not the point. Hdmi would work but not with a amp without hdmi inputs and outputs.
