if you are my friends use a steel wire sort of thing to cover the whole pond, its ugly but atleast the few hundred dollar kois lives another day

I've had this pond for almost 5 years now. That picture was taken I believe in it's 2nd year. My koi cost about $20-$25 each when I got them. The butterfly ones cost a little more obviously. They were about 3"-5" when I bought them and are A LOT bigger now.
I've lost maybe 2 Koi in total since I've had the pond. Biggest predator has been a crane that comes into our yard but our dog usually takes care of him before he gets too close to the pond. We've had possums come in too but we scared them off with wolf urine.
When we built our pond, we had it built so there would be ample hiding spots for the fish. There are tons of crevices and holes and paths for them to hide in so we're safe from most predators.
When we go on vacations, we put a net over it just to be on the safe side.
