Speakers don't really need to be upgraded if you have some really good ones.

I have some B&W DM640 which are about 15 years old and they sound amazing.
Upgrade the receiver if you have to have the truehd.
I did buy the Pioneer vsx 521 but I had problems with it and didn't notice the sound being that much better. It is an entry level though compared to yamahas flagship reciever back in the day. So I returned it.
