I don't like it myself. If its leaking, then you have water in places its not supposed to go. Now, if you cover that, then you have moisture damage in behind new stuff.

It will work, but if you really look at what it will cost to re-do the shower, vs a stop-gap measure, I think in the long run you are better to do it right.
