If you are looking for a piece of laminate, the countertop material, it will be next to impossible to find it in stock. No one uses straight colors because it shows every nick and scratch, so no one will carry it for you. You may be able to get it special order from Home Depot or I have a counter top guy that specializes in laminate that would probably be able to get some.

Getting a black wood look piece would also be tough. The only place I've ever seen that is the Ikea furniture, in which case I would say go buy the lack table for $20, and peel off a piece of the laminate that you need. That table is made with cardboard and love, so it shouldn't be too hard.

What are you building, or repairing?

thanks for the suggestions. I'm repairing a very small section of a desk, so I think I'll dumpster dive IKEA AS-IS for some laminate like you suggested.
