Hey there sindragon, first of all, congrats on your upgrade!
I've gone from symbian Nokias (N95+N97) to the iphone 3GS, and then onto the 4s, and I honestly loved my upgrades...
1) Play with the 4s for a month or so before deciding whether or not to upgrade. For example, I was in the same boat, but after a mere 2 weeks, the basic out-of-the-box functions of the phone was enough to keep me happy, so I didn't go the JB route.
-As for the contacts, there are a number of free apps that you can use. For example, an App that I used in the past was called "iDrive"...
2) Battery tips... you can go online and find a million different answers. The surefire way to do it is take out the new 4s out of the box, connect with the laptop and set your iTunes up.
-After setting it up, put the phone on the charger and let it charge up to full. Mind you, the phone will have a battery percentage of around 60% straight out of the box. So you just want to top it up.
3) Apps? There's an old thread with alot of goodies, so do some RS search!
-NOTE, set up iCloud and the "Findmyiphone" app asap, because it'll be useful if you misplace or lose your phone.
-NOTE, becareful with downloading apps, because 2 out of 5 apps that you download may have a internal bug that will deplete your iphone battery life like MAD.
-One way to check is, go to SETTINGS>GENRRAL>USAGE>scroll down to time since last full charge, "usage" and "standby" SHOULD read different numbers. IF both usage and standby reads the same number, it means you have a bug, and the bug won't let the phone go into stand-by mode...and your phone will drain like no tmmrw.
Battery-life is meh, but with heavy-usage it lasts me 2 days... I do minimal talk, heavy texting, and lots of wifi.
Hope this helps!
