Did they offer your the job because of your resume or because you nailed the interviews, impressed them as a person?
Sorry, but no sympathy for you because lying is lack of integrity and that is a big no-no in my books.
Background checks are different for different companies. Most do criminal check and also look for bankruptcy issues. Most companies will call your previous employers before they hire you.
