LOL at the cable, refund it when possible.
Go borrow a Blueray player and some movies, and download some TV calibration program to try it out. It could be only the TV and the signal. My Samsung has awful noise and blur on some HD channels, that pisses me off.
There's a 46" quattron display at the nearby electronic store, it plays sports channel all day long and I don't find it painful at all. It could be only yours, go back to the store and play the same channel to see the difference.
