So the iPad hurts your eyes. Is there tech in the iPad 2 that resolves that problem? You want an e-ink reader. As !MiKrofT mentioned, the KindleDX is the biggest e-ink reader available now. The regular Kindle screen size is about the same size as a page in a paperback.
My wife has had her 2nd gen Kindle for a couple years, now. She loves it. All her reading is done on it. The battery life is insane. Purchasing new books is also ridiculously easy on their 3G connection. I've used it a few times, and it feels like you're reading a page out of a book. If i wasn't a cheap-ass, I'd get a Kindle for myself.
