This seems like a tough course for people like me who are horrible at reading/writing Chinese, and easier/more suitable for people who can already write/read a whole newspaper/etc. It would be great if anyone could chime in, thanks!

When i did my interview i got into 152 and the class was like taking a high school course all over again. Small class and majority of people are Canto speakers easy to bond. Only key to doing well is practice, read, learn more.
In your placement interview, it really depends on your background in speaking and reading mandarin.
