You'll need to figure out the cooling. TV's have their airflow designed so that the hot air will rise, and generally create their own airflow out of the housing. If you have the screen in the wrong orientation, or in a sealed enclosure (I'm not sure how your coffee table will be), you risk it overheating.

That said, newer tv's in general run much cooler than tv's back in the day. Especially LED edge-lit LCD's. but it's something you'll need to keep in mind.

Mounting it flat won't damage the LCD.
