I wouldn't say obligated to move him, but this is their situation.
They have Lu signed for many years to come.
Schneider is an RFA and there are rumors that other teams may be willing to offer quite a bit of money for him. Sure the team will get compensation but if the team wants to keep Cory, then that means they will have to offer more money.
The team also has a pretty good prospect in Eddie Lack in the minors.
Depending on how negotiations go, it may be hard to convince Cory to take a paycut to hang around longer to be goalie 1B and play 30-40 games.
Same goes with signing Scheider and asking Lu to be 1B and play less than 50 games.
So obligated, no. But they don't have a lot of negotiation room atm.
