You're jumping the gun a bit. It's not like they are replacing the coupe with the convertible, you want good handling go buy the hardtop... those who want the vert probably won't be taking the car tracking and drifting. It will probably be a bit heavier than the coupe and marginally flexier, but I can't see its well received handling and low COG being compromised that much with the vert. This will eat into the Miata's monopoly of the small convertible RWD and offer the flexibility of 2 extra rear seats if needed. Pretty smart on Toyota's part IMO.
I wonder how similar the side profile of the convertible FR-S will be vs. the coupe. Not a huge fan of the looks with the top down, but when you are in the driver's seat you don't see what it looks like from the outside anyways. The driving experience a convertible offers is unmatched by anything else really.
