Ok, after looking into my hack, it may have been because I joined a public game.

when you join a public game, your unencrypted session ID (that bypasses password authentication) is sent to everyone else playing. If they have packet sniffing software installed they can then login to your account with your session ID since blizz was too lazy to encrypt it!

Even the authenticator is useless if one has the right software.
Just some speculations, but I think this 8 hour maintenance is to fix the azmodan glitch runs where you get 2x the xp for each run instead of the ~150k. A diablo gold find glitch, and possibly the said issue above.
Maybe even the Wizard force armor/diamond armor build.
