well if ur car starts out with 5w30 and as it gets older n u get more KMs on it u can either switch to 5w30 synth or 5w40
usually ppl put thicker oil at around 180 000 cuz of valve noise
reg oil the molecules are big and small
synth oil molecules are all small so they lube better (they get into smaller holes n cracks)
some ppl go for 10w40
5w30 and 10w30 r the same the only diff is at cold start up, wen engine is cold the oil is at a 10 or 5 weight wen engine is at operating temp its at a 30 weight so wen ur car is at 90-100 degrees C its the same 30 weight

so in my point of view 5w40 is solid for high mileage engines
