I'm sure you're right there about toyota going with the tamer suspension. they've been doing that for years really especially with the mr2s. they revise it to make it safer and to "fix" the snap oversteer issues if there are any, then later on, enthusiast will complain about the newer/heavier/less fun fixes and head back to the zenki models.

that being said, surprisingly on the original ae86 they didnt do any drastic changes. only minor things including:
-beefier rear axles
-diagnositic box in the harness
-third brake light
-nicer looking eye lids for hidden lights
-nicer interior
