You don't always have to downshift. If the light changes suddenly and you don't have the time to downshift don't try. I usually do 4 into 2 with a rev match but thats cause my ratio is close. Just do whatever feels comfortable with you. When it comes to everyday driving whatever you feel comfortable with is best.
