They're okay, but as the mic is integrated into the body, it will pick up the sounds of you handling the camera, zooming a lens or the AF motor going. It can be distracting. At the very least, get a small external mic that you can plug into the mic input. Nikon has a cool little one that is powered by the camera body. It will work with any DSLR with a mic input. I bought a Sennheiser MKE400, which has better sound quality than the Nikon one, and is slightly larger, but still quite small.
