Another huge factor for tennis shoes is their durability. You take regular sneakers, and if you're actually trying to play tennis for real, you'll murder those shoes in no time. Tennis shoes generally have much more durable rubber and extra reinforcements at locations that tend to drag on the court.
I personally read a lot of user reviews on Tennis Warehouse. I use some lower end Nike tennis shoes that work really well for me. They don't give me blisters or jam my toes, and that's the most important.
