There is generally a decent amount of work in Grande Prairie as well. It's pretty cheap to live there too. Fort Nelson as well. Fort St. John to some degree too. Most companies will require a clean drivers abstract as well.

If you want to get work in Fort Mac, I suggest getting the following courses:

H2S Alive
Standard First Aid Level C - CPR with AED
Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
Oil Sands Safety Association Regional Orientation (Commonly referred to as "OSSA training)


The courses listed below generally aren't required right off the hop, but they will help:

Confined Space Entry / Monitor
Fall Arrest / Protection
Elevated Work Platform
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)


What I generally suggest to my friends that want to come up here is to get a Class 3 or 1 drivers license. Drivers are never out of work and have the easiest time getting jobs from my observations.
