It is good for tight areas, or areas where you are prone to injuring/imbalances. very good for the back, rotators, hips, IT bands etc... it basically acts as a self massager to increase blood flow in the area that is problematic, and "kneed" out the muscle to say the least. I usually find it most beneficial pre stretching.

Have you tried the travel roller? I find the trigger point one not hard enough... And the different sections somewhat gimmicky.
