Spoiler!
Ken-san, previously the manager at Fuji Sushi, now is operating this restaurant.
Went yesterday for date night, and had a pretty decent experience.
The waitresses had lots of smiles, and along with the sushi chefs, greeted us with loud exclaimations upon our arrival. No hostess, but we were seated immediately even though they were almost a full house.
The service was excellent. Very friendly and helpful servers. It was way more relaxed and fun compared to the serious and rushed ambience of Fuji. They promptly topped up my tea, and brought the correct number of utensils for dessert without me having to nag at them.
To my dismay, there was no Chirashi-zushi. Instead, we had ordered:
Deka negitoro
Wild salmon sashimi + salmon roe donburi
Prawn tempura
Nabeyaki udon
Aasari Sakamushi
Matcha green tea ice cream
Deka negitoro: It was big, however it was largely in rice. The green onion was fresh cut, the rice was prepared very well, and the seaweed was crisp and flavorful. The ginger that came with it was a tad old and dry. The wasabi was standard.
Wild salmon/roe donburi: Overload on rice, and not enough salmon sashimi(freshness was good.) Excellent roe portion. Rice, like the negitoro was very well prepared.
Prawn tempura: VERY clean batter, fried to a perfection. This is the quality that I'd expect from a high end Japanese restaurant. The prawns were well pressed, and very large in size.
Nabeyaki udon: Standard. Good udon and broth done right with a chicken breast and 1 prawn tempura. Portion was Good. Can't expect much more, but hard to expect less too.
Aasari sakamushi (Clams steamed with sake): Portion was kind of small, but the quality was there. The soup was flavorful and leaves a hint of a sweet aftertaste.
Matcha green tea ice cream: Good, but could be better. Kura, the previous restaurant that was in Tairyou Ichiba's place had better Matcha green tea ice cream. It was creamier and matcha-er lol. Tairyous, however, came with a spoon portion of red bean paste.
Last but not least, their Match green tea. It was very pleasantly bitter with a strong aroma and a dry green tea aftertaste. You can tell they made it way more potent than the average joe restaurant where they reuse the tea bags to hell.
While I don't think it will impress most people who go, I will definitely go back, because this place had paid attention to detail where most other places in its price range don't. Of course, there are still ups and downs they need to work on too.
Tairyou Ichiba is good in quality, but their portions were a bit.... disproportioned. I'd say they are priced fair.
8/10 (lots of room for improvement, but lots of potential)
