i'd like to have 5 or 6 white cloud minnows in there. is this a good price to get my self set up & going? too much too little? i remember reading 1 gallon per 1" of fish so i was thinking this is a good size.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Just remember not to rush things. New tanks need time to settle in. If you're good with maintenance you can always go past the 1"/gallon rule.

Another small fish that's quite nice is the Galaxy Rasbora. Newer to the aquarium trade.
