If I didn't have 2 years left on my contract then I would buy a locked one from the Apple store. When the iPhone 4 came out, fido allow early upgrade of 14 months so they stacked another 36 months onto my contract. A lot of people are still under contract because of the iPhone 4 and the carrier's 3 year contract. That's was 2 years ago so that's why there's no line up at the Apple store like there was for the iPhone 4. To buy out my contract and buy the phone from fido I would have to pay $828 after tax only to let them put me in contract for 3 years. Makes more sense to buy an unlocked one for $895 and finish the remaining 2 years that I have left which by then the iPhone 6 will be out and I can renew if I wanted to.
