What are the effects of having a low GPA in university in the future (ie. enrollment date priorities, etc)?

Enrollment (to the best of my knowledge at SFU, at least) is based on how many credits AND GPA, so it will help out when getting into those low capacity upper level courses. It'll also make getting into graduate schools easier as there is usually a GPA requirement and if it's good it can be used to balance out requirements that one may not have, like work experience. Also good, braggable material on resumes for jobs or co-op.
Also, if you have a higher GPA, you'll be getting better marks so you'll have an overall better understanding of everything you're learning
