It's the other way around. Only V1 is DD-WRT and Tomato compatible. E4200 V2 is not.
I still have a WRT54GL kicking around with Tomato in the basement. That thing never needs a reboot. I've a E4200V1 with Tomato (Shibby) for the main router.
N56U has 3rd party firmware support and as far as I know no official DD-WRT support. Check out the RT-N66U instead as someone else suggested.
