Same here, caught an edge while mellowing out and not paying attention, head impacts ice at high speed and my Smith Maze took a massive dent and had my ears ringing for a good 30s before I realized that I survived a possible head injury. The helmet was unusable after, but $90 vs a lifetime of headaches is a worthy investment.

My point was that helmets are not the be-all-end-all of head injuries. If you ride well beyond your abilities or your ability to navigate the mountain safely, don't respect the Alpine Code, you can be in a hamster ball and you will still get hurt.

I know what you're saying. I'm a helmet user too. it's just, if you just read around the various snowboarding forums out there, there are anti-helmet hardliners that use the 15mph impact rating as one of many reasons helmets don't work. The other primary excuse is that they're adults and they have free will to make the decision NOT to wear helmets. It's a fair, but pretty ridiculous argument.
