Accept your fear and know that it does not define you...I don't think we can intellectually eliminate fears but we can certainly acknowledge them, accept them then conquer them with an understanding that fear is only a mental construct and not a rule.
For example I had, and still have, an extreme phobia of public speaking however with meditation came the acknowledgement that it is there in my head but its only an illusion and not a rule. I am not my emotions or thoughts, I am the awareness of them. Our brains function is to interpret data but we are not the mental process of interpretation just as our hearts purpose is to pump blood yet we are not the beating of the heart. Only the awareness of both. We easily accept that our heart beats without our conscious control, I believe it is the same for the mind.
Just be aware of the fear, watch it, accept it, trust in god and jump out of a plane. You will live and conquer the fear. If you fight it you are stuck with it.
