You know, of all the people who could not produce their DL on the spot when I stopped them....by a huge overwhelming majority the reason they didn't produce is because they didn't have one. They were prohibited, suspended, DL was expired, or they were hiding their true identity to escape some sort of legal process, that sort of thing.
In my experience most drivers do not forget their DL. They remember their keys and wallet and other stuff but most people do not normally take their DL out of their wallet. I spent years waiting for drivers who struggled to get the &&*(())!!! thing out from behind that shrunken plastic window. Not saying nobody does forget it, just that very few do.

Yea, I haven't worked in the field so I don't know what kind of statistics police officers are running into. I'm speaking from personal experience I guess. I tend to leave my wallet in my car and not bring it inside the house with me and often I drive vehicles other than mine forgetting that my wallet is in my vehicle.
