Be sure to stop at Cathedral Grove (or MacMillan Provincial Park). It has those monster old growth trees. If anything, it's almost better to be there when it's wet/dreary out. Less people, and the trees are just as awesome. Plus, even if it IS raining, the canopy of trees does help keep the brunt of the rain off. You can't miss it on your way to/from Tofino.

Coombs is okay... that time of year could be iffy, as the market might not even be open. It's on the way, and really isn't out of the way as far as a detour goes.

Englishman River Falls is sweet, and a nice spot to check out, but like Skinny said, this time of year, it might be a bit sloppy. Qualicum Falls is a nice spot too. In the summer, it's always cool watching the derp teenagers cliff jump into the pools.

Parksville/Qualicum areas are nice, just lots of old people lol. But they're right on the water, so if the weather is good, they're nice spots to grab a coffee/drink and chill by the water.

Horne Lake Caves is another cool place. A bit off the beaten path (but still close to Parksville), and tricky to find, so if you're interested in going to check out the caves, google that shit before you leave lol.

*** For the LOVE of all that is holy... Do NOT stay in Port Alberni. If you think Nanaimo is a dump, Port Alberni makes Nanaimo seem like West Van. It's a giant shithole, so don't waste your time.***
