Because in a lot of cases, you could end up working on projects with other people in the working world. My advice is if you're worried about your grades with a less than stellar group, be proactive and become the leader. Make sure all communication between group members is clear and if you want to be able to hold someone accountable for their tasks, make sure they are all documented (take meeting minutes from all meetings and make sure you have action items so that people know what they have to do). Don't take contracts before you start a project lightly either and try to tie marks to punishments for your group-mates shortcomings.
