Nothing AMD currently offers under $200 can really match the 3rd gen i5 procs in terms of raw processing power, but they'll sure as hell be a lot quicker and efficient than anything from the Core 2 era.
If your budget allows, this would be a good new option from AMD that is actually on par with some of Intel's newer offerings.

I would recommend staying away from anything Bulldozer as the Phenom II x4 965 BE with an OC is capable of higher performance, for a fraction of the price.
