I have a pretty extensive collection of non-plain clothed shirts (variety of herringbones, stripes, patterns). I find that the plainer looking ones are easier to wear and easier to match it up nicely to whatever the rest of my outfits consist of.
I have one or two shirts with cufflinks, but I'm rarely ever in a situation where it demands that level of formality. I like having buttons so I don't have to deal with the hassle of putting on a cufflink
