A 2-year cycle is unnecessary.
EA simply needs to focus on solid CORE gameplay and then branch out once they have that. EA simply tries to do more than time and allocated resources allow (and they allocate NOWHERE near enough resources for most, if not all, of their projects), releases games before they're ready, doesn't provide enough support for their games, and doesn't communicate effectively with their customers.
If they streamlined their operations, focused more on gameplay instead of gimmicks, and allocated more resources, they could easily release a high-quality NHL annually without a problem.
