I hate hearing about shit like this

a huge number of people that have no clue how computers work just buy a new one when all they need to do is clear out some viruses and uninstall some of the startup junk they've accumulated. That's why I've got several "travel" laptops that I don't have much use for that I got from friends after they ignored my advice and bought a new computer just to check facebook and watch cat videos on YouTube.

You kinda fucked up this analogy, you want better tires before making more power so you can actually use the power when you get it. Which would be like upgrading your audio sources to FLAC before you upgrade your hardware so that when you upgrade your hardware it can actually make a difference.
