Having had live-in girlfriends in Vancouver from my late teens to late 20's, I can absolutely agree that living with someone does increase the amount of friction. You can have a nice list, open dialogue. But when you both come home from work, exhausted, grumpy or stressed, all bets are off.
I would say, live with your girl first, or at least have a longer engagement and see how it works out.
