That's not to say you CAN'T have a collie in the 'burbs, but remember they're bred as herding dogs, and as such need lots of exercise, and something to keep their brains challenged. They're not a dog that will want to lay around all day and then go for a short walk before and after work. If you have an active, outdoor lifestyle, a collie could be a good companion to take along with you places.

But yeah, try shelters and SPCA first - there are lots of dogs already out there in need of good homes.
