I can't remember if this is what typically happens at the federal or provincial level, but I think the usual procedure is, the winner from a really strong Liberals riding will resign, and the party leader will run in a by-election in that riding again.
But definitely, for a party leader to lose out in her own riding is always a bit of a blow.
