FFXI had a much bigger world, and also even when it was launched in North America, it was already running for over a year with an expansion. So its hard to compare. From what I've experienced in ARR, it improved almost every aspect that I hated in FFXI. (ie mob re-pop is much faster, you get exp for helping others, quests are much easier to track)
ARR is far less time consuming. I could actually pick up and play a few quest and level up. While FFXI was countless hours waiting for a group.

But I'm not sure if its just beta or the final version is gonna be the same. So far I think its far too easy. Quest mobs gives like 100% drop as well. The game is still at an early stage, so if this game could finally succeed, I'm sure there will be more to come.

I just wish they change the payment method to billed by time online instead of monthly.
