As far as I can see, the OP has been clear on what's been going on, what he wanted to do, and when.
It did take a bit but he eventually ended it. on HIS terms. He knew what he needed to give himself closure. To be in the right headspace to do everything he NEEDED to move on smoothly from a situation that's usually a nuclear bomb tossed into the middle of a person's life.
Who are we to judge?
In this situation, we on RS should be supportive of the OP, and offer guidance, if asked for/required. No need to chastise the guy for going with option C instead of option A.
I don't think I could have handled it any better myself, given that I've been in the same place before and I DIDN'T.
I give the OP props, and may the next part of his life be better than the last.
