For reference, my cousin's bike has Sora. That groupset is straight up broken and cannot be saved.

I'm currently looking at buying a used bike with a complete ultegra groupset (6500 I believe) and just wondering if its worth purchasing old tech over newer components at a similar pricepoints. I'm not willing to invest too much right now hence the cheapskate-ness
