Yeah, the first year is common to ECET and EE. Then after first year you choose what you want to apply for. It's 1 more year for a diploma or 3 more for a degree or you can do the btech degree part time while working (what I may end up doing).
First and second term are 6 courses each as seen here
BCIT : : Electrical Engineering. The courses weren't necessarily that difficult (maybe a 3 or 4 on your scale) but there is a lot of lab work to do. With labs you have to do the lab preb before hand so that takes a lot of time. First term was easier with 3 labs and fairly easier courses. Second term was a gong show with 5 labs and some harder courses.
It's a decent program. I haven't had much to complain about. All the teachers are pretty good and fair.
