If we say the worst movie ever made is 0/10 and the best film ever made is 10/10, then for me, 5/10 translates to 50%, as in a bare pass, or a D grade. Now, while the average grade of all movies that are produced may be 5/10, the average grade of the movies that I personally watch is higher than that - probably around 7/10, or a C+. Now, unless you are really unlucky and just happen to pick really bad movies or just don't check imdb etc. ratings beforehand, I don't see how the average movie you watch could be a 5/10. I do, however agree with you that if you say a movie "sucked shit", it should be much lower than 5/10.

My personal problem with ratings in this thread are that people give 10/10 or 0/10 ratings without any explanation whatsoever. If you give a movie 10/10, I think that at least deserves a sentence or two.
