Since FB is apparently full of useless, oblivious twits, I think I'll see if RS's animal-loving community can step up to the plate here.
Now I know there are lots of great, worthy rescues that all need our support, but I wanna put in a plug for a local one that really needs some help:

It's run by an amazing woman who is currently caring for something like 34 dogs, mostly on her own, with sporadic volunteer help. She also works weekends at the Delta Community Animal Shelter. Suffice to say, her entire life pretty much revolves around helping animals.
And right now she's in a pinch: she has massive vet bills, as well as darling little Allie, who's had a gimped leg since it was injured as a pup and never tended to, and so needs an amputation. She put out the call on her FB group for her almost 700 members to just kick in a measly $10 each, which would be enough to cover all the vet bills and Allie's surgery.
And so far she's been disappointed: about 60 people have donated to a total of under $2000, and while that helps a lot, it means less than 10% of group members have stepped up.
She's really feeling burnt out these days from the lack of funds and lack of help and it would give her a real boost if some donations would start coming in again. She does amazing work with the dogs in her charge and needs all the energy she can get - we visited her "farm" on the weekend and it's just incredible everything she does there.
So come on guys, who wants to help show RS >> FB??
